Search Engine Submissions

Search engine submissions are no longer necessary, with very few exceptions. If a web hosting company offers search engine submissions, simply ignore the offer and treat the web host as if they did not provide the submission service at all.

Major search engines ignore website submissions, preferring to find new websites themselves using links from other websites.

Smaller, niche search engines and those search engines which are specific to a particular country, may still require manual submission. Automated submission is generally ignored, and if heavily used, may cause a website to be penalised or blacklisted from the search engines.

Web directories such as Yahoo, DMOZ and GoGuides require manual submission. These web directories are human-edited, and require careful construction of your title and description to achieve great exposure.

Automated search engine submission is a thing of the past, and as such should be avoided when offered by a web hosting company.
