.au Domain Name Registration

The .au top-level domain is reserved for registration by Australian businesses. .au domain names are available in the following formats:

  • .com.au — Australian commercial/business. For commercial entities, such as companies (with ACN as registered through ASIC), and businesses (registered with state governments).
  • .net.au — Australian network institution. For commercial entities, such as companies (with ACN as registered through ASIC), and businesses (registered with state governments).
  • .org.au — Australian organisation. For charities and non-profit organisations.
  • .edu.au — Australian educational institutions/schools/universities. For educational institutions registered at federal or state level.
  • .gov.au — Australian government. For federal, state and local government bodies.
  • .asn.au — Australian association. For incorporated associations, political parties, trade unions, sporting and special interest clubs.
  • .id.au — Australian individual/personal. For individuals who are Australian citizens or residents.
  • .csiro.au — Commonwealth Science and Industry Research Organisation (CSIRO)
  • .info.au — Pending
  • .conf.au — Pending

In addition, plans are underway to introduce eight new second-level domains (2LD's) for states and territories within Australia. These will be:

  • act.au — Australian Capital Territory
  • nsw.au — New South Wales
  • nt.au — Northern Territory
  • qld.au — Queensland
  • sa.au — South Australia
  • tas.au — Tasmania
  • vic.au — Victoria
  • wa.au — Western Australia
